Conclusion
The United States Military Draft has been a controversial matter even from the beginning times of our nation. Division in our country lies within the measures of necessity that must be taken to faithfully protect it. Should we reinstate the draft, or is the draft not necessary to the United States? Would it negatively affect our society and its unity or help bring us closer together? Even though a formal draft is not currently employed, it is still under the law for all male U.S. citizens, and male aliens who live here, who are ages 18 through 25 to register with the Selective Service System. Today, fines and even prison time can still be consequences of men who neglect to register. Below is a link to the Selective Service System Online Registration Form.

One of the benefits of living in the Untied States is the freedom of speech. Of course everyone is therefore entitled to his or her own opinion, but all of these narrow-minded opinions can cause discord among our fellow citizens. I personally believe that fear lies under all of these differing opinions. We are scared to go to war while we watch our loved ones who are fighting for our freedom suffer for it. I experience this fear everyday from having a loved one enlisted into the Marine Corps. I know how it is to be afraid that you will lose someone you care about because this world suffers from so much turmoil among different opinionated countries. It is reality, though, that we do have various enemies of our country and will most likely engage in major conflict in our future. So instead of wasting our time complaining about the need or lack of need regarding another military draft, or how it has caused problem in our nation’s past, shouldn’t we start merging our viewpoints together to prepare ourselves for what might come? As civilians of the United States, shouldn’t we all come together in unity in order to send out a strong message of nationalism to those in the world who believe that are nation is hopelessly divided. How would our country change if we stared our fear right in the face and, for once, we, as Americans did not let our inflexible opinions get in the way of our actual safety and unity?
