Controversy over The Draft in the Korean War
(United street artists, "Don't register for war" )
Although the U.S. came to South Korea’s aid on the account of preceding global military commitments, there was still marked draft resistance. Opposition to the draft predominantly came from Conscientious Objectors. It is said that 80,000 draft evasion cases were investigated, but scarcely any came to trial (Tracey, 2006). Many Conscientious Objectors underwent basic training, which did not include weapons training, to become medics instead of abandoning their values regarding fighting in any war (Elliot, 2008).
